Mips, as Official Safety Partner to MXGP, arranged the first European Safety Symposium in Teutschenthal, together with Infront Moto Racing, the FIM, brand partners and Team Mips ambassador Tim Gajser.

Held on the eve of the Grand Prix on May 31st, in the presence of invited media, the Safety Symposium aimed to elevate the conversation of rider safety in the sport, giving helmet safety the attention, and action, it deserves.

Starting with the talent of tomorrow, the MXGP Academy youth riders and their parents were first educated on the importance of choosing protective equipment, specifically helmets, based upon safety as a priority. Demonstrating the ‘action’ to the ‘attention’, each of the aspiring MXGP stars was then given a helmet equipped with the Mips safety system to ensure they are riding with the added safety it affords.

Joining Mips CEO Max Strandwitz on stage were Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo and FIM CMS Director Antonio Alia plus representatives of three brands choosing to adopt the Mips safety system – Fox/Bell, Shot and Thor. Highlighting the rider perspective was Team Mips ambassador and five-time MXGP (MX2) World Champion Tim Gajser.

Let’s all give helmet safety the attention, and action, it deserves.

Max Strandwitz, Mips CEO: “I am very pleased with our Safety Symposium in Germany. For us we want to elevate the conversation around helmet safety, and bringing together some of our great brands and of course our own ambassador Tim Gajser along with MXGP and the FIM was a really important step in pushing that awareness and action. It’s been a great event with a lot of interest and we’re really happy with the discussions as we continue with our mission to lead the world to safer helmets.”

David Luongo, Infront Moto Racing CEO: “We have great pleasure in welcoming Mips to the MXGP family officially. Safety is always a top priority which we are always pushing to improve, and this shared vision with Mips means we can continue to develop the level of rider safety not just in MXGP but also for the wider sport of motocross. Joining so many key people from our motocross family together to increase the conversation around safety is something we are very happy to be able to be a part of with Mips.”

Tim Gajser, 5x World Champion: “The sport is developing really fast, the bikes are getting faster, and so the only right thing is that the safety equipment is also developed to be safer, and that’s what Mips are doing. As a rider and an athlete, we all want to have as little equipment on us as possible to feel light, and to know the Mips system is there but not feel it inside the helmet is an amazing feeling. As a rider it’s really important to know that you’re protected.

“Since using Mips with Fox from 2018, I haven’t ridden without Mips. If there’s a safer option available, why wouldn’t you take it? When we go behind the gate we all want to win, but in the end we want to come home safe as well. When you know there is that extra level of safety there it gives you more confidence. ”

“I was also young and you always want that your helmet looks nice, but it’s really important to consider how the helmet is built. For me, it’s the most important thing to choose a helmet on safety and technology, and I would definitely suggest Mips.”

Glen Dempsey, Thor EU: “There is so much that consumers can research on products now, which is great, but as a brand you need to give them the best options possible. That’s why we choose Mips to give our riders, from grass roots all the way to MXGP, the best level of safety for their hobby and sport.”

Jean-Baptiste Rollet, Shot Marketer: “I think at the moment we need to teach the young generation in particular about the importance of helmet safety because, as Tim says, there is still a big focus on the look and the design. But we all know that crashes are always a risk in this sport. So we need to talk, we need to educate, and to make safety right in the middle of the discussion and thought process behind helmets. This is also why it’s great to have Tim, as a very strong ambassador not only for Mips but also for the sport in general, speaking so openly about safety to encourage other riders to make smart choices.”

Thomas Ramsbacher, FOX, BELL (Revelyst) VP Market Development: “We mind about protecting our riders in the best possible way, and this is what we are always looking for. We will never sell a product where we are not 100% behind its safety and performance, and this is why we use Mips. Let me give an example: all the cars we are now driving have airbag systems. At the end of the day the best situation is when we never feel the airbag, but it’s there and we know it makes us better protected. In the moment when we need it it’s there, and this is the feeling the Mips systems gives our riders. Buying a car without airbags isn’t even a consideration, and it should be the same with helmet choices and the Mips system.”

Antonio Alia, FIM CMS Director: “Developing increased safety systems for our riders is a key mission for us, and it’s clear that Mips shares that vision. Rotational motion is a very important consideration in accidents, which is why it’s now included in the latest ECE 22.06 regulations, but there is always work to be done and Mips are right at the forefront of this. I am confident that all together we can continue to work towards making our sport safer and reducing the effects of crashes, and we welcome this increased conversation around helmet safety.”

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – [May 14, 2024] – Mips, a global leader in helmet-based safety, today announces a significant adoption of its technology by World Tour cycling teams. In 2024, a staggering 87% of women’s teams and 83% of men’s teams have chosen helmets equipped with the Mips® safety system, demonstrating a clear commitment to prioritizing athlete safety.

“This adoption by World Tour teams reflects the growing understanding of rotational motion and its impact on head injuries,” said Max Strandwitz, CEO of Mips. “We’re proud to see so many of the world’s best riders using helmets with Mips technology.”

The Mips safety system is designed to address dangerous rotational motion, a common cause of concussions and other forms of traumatic brain injuries (TBI). The low-friction layer integrated within helmets equipped with Mips technology aims to redirect rotational motion away from the head, with the intention to reduce the risk of brain injury.

This World Tour team adoption mirrors the broader market trend of Mips technology integration. Over 150 helmet brands worldwide offer helmet models equipped with the Mips safety system across various categories, including cycling, snowsports, motorsports, equestrian, and industrial safety.

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN; April 18, 2024Mips, a global leader in helmet-based safety, and Husqvarna, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of innovative forest, lawn and garden products, today announces their official partnership to amplify helmet safety for the forestry industry.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, forestry is among the industries with the highest fatality rate of all occupations. Of the common accidents that workers experience, struck by incidents can cause a range of injuries, from cuts and bruises to traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and fatalities.

Proper PPE usage, and head protection in particular, is critical to keep forestry workers safe. Most helmets available today are designed to protect workers from linear impacts, or those directly to the crown of the head. Yet the majority of accidents occur at an angle, therefore exposing the wearer’s head to rotational motion – a leading cause of TBIs.

Together, the two Swedish-based organizations Mips and Husqvarna will launch a forestry helmet equipped with the Mips® safety system later this year. This will be the first Husqvarna safety helmet with Mips technology and also the first helmet with the Mips safety system in the forestry industry globally.

“Husqvarna is an industry leader in developing solutions for the field of forestry,” says Max Strandwitz, CEO at Mips. “We are thrilled to partner with them to bring our safety technology to the forestry industry, and to expand to this industry as we continue true to our mission; to lead the world to safer helmets.”

“We are delighted to announce our partnership with Mips, pioneers in head protection technology. By incorporating Mips’ advanced safety systems into our helmets, we aim to enhance the level of safety for Husqvarna users worldwide, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to setting high standards of safety in the industry”, says Carl-Magnus Lunner, Product Manager Head PPE & climbing equipment at Husqvarna.

Leading helmet manufacturers are trusting Mips due to seamless integration and their aim to exceed safety standards.

Stockholm, Sweden; April 10, 2024 – Mips, a global leader in helmet-based safety and experts in dangerous rotational motion, is expanding its solutions and integrations into more helmets and styles. Led by its recently announced innovative Virtual Test Lab (VTL) and new solutions like Mips® Integra Split, Mips® Air Node and Mips® Integra TX, over 150 helmet manufacturers (in categories like bike, snow, moto, equestrian etc.) around the world trust the Mips safety system to be added to their products.

The classic yellow Mips low friction layer that most people have seen in helmets for years is still there. But most new helmets with Mips technology today feature a system that is even more integrated and sometimes almost invisible when you look inside the helmet.

“We’re committed to making helmet-based safety more accessible to everyone,” said Mips CEO, Max Strandwitz. “By expanding our range of solutions and integrations into more helmet models and styles, we’re making it easier for riders and other helmet users to choose the helmet best fitted for their needs, taste in style, and fit. But for Mips, progress and innovation don’t stop there. We view industry standards as a baseline, not a finish line. We’re constantly pushing the boundaries of helmet safety through research and development, true to our mission: to lead the way to safer and more sustainable helmets.”

All Mips safety systems are engineered to meet the same criteria within redirection of rotational motion and are designed to provide safety beyond industry standards.

Mips provides a wide range of solutions to meet the differing needs of the many types of helmet users. Please see the different solutions listed below and you can see more from the whole range here;

Mips® Essential Core: Designed to help reduce rotational motion in oblique impacts through low friction. Simple, yet efficient. A perfect introduction to the Mips safety systems, it can be found in helmets used for bicycling, horse riding, motorcycle riding and skiing.

Mips® Evolve Core: Mips Evolve Core is a system designed for use in a wide variety of helmets intended for activities such as skiing, horse riding, bicycling and motor sports. With its refined fit and light construction, Mips Evolve Core has become our most popular helmet safety system.

Mips® Air Node: Fasteners are designed to release at oblique impacts to help redirect rotational motion. The Mips Air Node system provides omnidirectional movement with minimal changes to the original helmet. It is especially suitable for highly ventilated, lightweight helmets, as the system itself adds practically no extra weight or volume.

Mips® Elevate Core: Rotational movement for harness helmets in oblique impacts. Hard hats were initially developed to protect against falling objects and are now used for workplace safety throughout the construction industry and many other workplaces.

Mips® Integra Fuse: A premium solution for omnidirectional movement. The system is comfortable, and durable, and adds no stack height to the helmet. It can be found in helmets used for biking, skiing, motorsports and horse riding.

Mips® Integra Split: The design of the Mips Integra Split provides seamless integration, a comfortable fit and gives designers freedom to incorporate greater ventilation in the helmet. The system provides omnidirectional movement for helmets with ample EPS coverage.

Mips® Integra TX: An invisible solution that provides omnidirectional movement. Mips Integra TX is useful in moto, equestrian, and snow helmets, where comfort is vital. The system is integrated in the comfort padding and is attached to the helmet with hook-and-loop fabric or existing attachment points inside the helmet.

As more helmets utilize the Mips safety systems, consumers demand progressively more integrated versions of the systems. Mips aim is to minimize the presence and visibility of the safety system without compromising the level of redirection of dangerous rotational motion to the head for any of its products. That means making Mips technology something that the user never has to manage or sometimes even notice.

About Mips

Mips specializes in helmet-based safety and is a market leader in this field. Based on an ingredient brand business model, the Mips® safety system is sold to the global helmet industry. The Mips® safety system is patent-protected and based on 25 years of research, testing, and development in cooperation with the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and the Karolinska Institute, both located in Stockholm, Sweden. The company’s headquarters and the test center are also located there, with more than 80 employees working in research and development, sales, marketing, and administration.

Mips® safety system creator reports reduced carbon emissions, circular product offering, DEI initiatives (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), and more.

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN; March 22, 2024Mips, a global leader in helmet-based safety, just unveiled its 2023 Sustainability Report. Detailing the organization’s continued dedication to implementing sustainable practices across its products (environment), employees, supply chain, and products (helmet safety), the report reveals that Mips has reduced emissions (Co2e) per solution by an average of 20.8% compared to 2022.

Mips is increasingly committed to more sustainable practices throughout each facet of the organization to limit environmental impact, applying those values in its value chain, and prioritizing social and workplace responsibility for employees. It continues to participate in the UN Global Compact, whose guiding principles are incorporated into Mips’ Code of Conduct and daily operations, and supports the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) limiting global warming to 1.5°C. Mips also adheres to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, focusing and aligning on the specific goals where the company can maximize its impact, in addition to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to understand and communicate its environmental impact.

Mips puts a great level of dedication into its sustainability efforts. The company’s analysis of sustainable practices includes everything from its products’ raw materials, manufacturing suppliers, wellbeing of employees, gender equality, social responsibility, and more.

Some highlights from the report, and how Mips achieved these results include:

  • Reduced emissions (Co2e) by an average of 20.8% per unit sold compared to 2022; Made possible by analysis of climate impact through the GHG (Greenhouse Gas) Protocol, clear data on emissions from raw materials used and manufacturing suppliers, and the use of post-industrial recycled plastic in certain of Mips’ solutions as described below.
  • Offered suppliers 100% post-industrial recycled plastic for, among others, Mips’ most sold solution, an important step in providing a circular product offering, which includes CO₂-neutral manufacturing and the use of recycled and recyclable materials.
  • Performed three third-party audits of its three most strategic suppliers to ensure a thorough evaluation of their compliance with Mips’ Code of Conduct and the ten principles of the UN Global Compact.
  • Achieved and surpassed a breakdown of 46/54 percent distribution of women to men in the workplace, including its Chinese subsidiary, as Mips actively works to reverse the trend of a male-dominated helmet industry.

During the previous year, Mips had worked closely with various stakeholders to rank 23 areas of sustainability to prioritize, in what has been summarized as a materiality analysis to ensure Mips’ sustainability efforts are moving the needle. Both Mips and its stakeholders believe raw material is the area where Mips can have the greatest impact, and research has been done into its raw material usage, emissions, bio-based plastics, and a circular product offering.

Gajser has won the MXGP World Championship four times in 2016, 2019, 2020 and 2022. Spaniard Ruben Fernandez has had an impressive rise through the ranks in MX2, and MXGP from 2022. His success in MXGP convinced Team HRC to sign him alongside Gajser for the 2023 campaign. The duo are joined this year by new MX2 signing Ferruccio Zanchi.

Bouncing back from an early leg injury in 2023 which sidelined him for seven months, Gajser won two of the last MXGP rounds of the season upon his return and is looking to take that momentum into 2024. Fernandez also stood on the podium four times, including starting his maiden season as a factory rider with a victory in Argentina.

Tim Gajser commented: “I’ve overcome several injuries throughout my career – and the 2023 season was no different. But this is a consequence of professional motocross competition. It’s difficult to win one world championship, but when you win four – there’s an expectation from myself and everyone else to continue that winning streak. That’s the goal in 2024, so when I’m concentrating on racing, I need to feel reassured that I’m protecting the most important part of my body – my head. And that’s why I’m happy to be working with Mips.”

Max Strandwitz, CEO at Mips concluded: “We are delighted to have agreed an extension to the Team HRC MXGP partnership, which began in 2021. It’s a sport full of high risk and speed, and we’re proud to continue backing Gajser and Fernandez, helping them feel confident to compete at their best. We look forward to supporting the Team HRC MXGP in the 2024 World Championship and wish them the best of luck.”

The highly decorated group of action sports talent, of which Tim Gajser and Ruben Fernandez are part of, also includes MotoGP rider, Aleix Espargaró. They are joined by Canadian freeride mountain biker Brandon Semenuk, widely regarded as the greatest mountain biker in the world, American mountain bike cross-country cyclist Kate Courtney, and the French four-time snowboard Freeride World Champion, Marion Haerty.

Stockholm, Sweden; January 2024 Mips, a global leader in helmet-based safety, has revealed the results of their pulse surveys, which are sent to all employees in Sweden and China. The year-to-date average score was 8.4 out of 10, indicating high levels of employee engagement and job satisfaction.

Additionally, Mips revealed their Employee Net Promoter Score (ENPS), measuring ambassadorship and the likelihood that employees recommend Mips as an employer, was at 45 year-to-date. The ENPS is weighted on a scale of –100 to +100. The index comparing other companies using the same platform is 14.

Employee engagement and satisfaction are critical to Mips’ mission of leading the world to safer and more sustainable helmets as the company seeks to encourage and drive innovation.

Mips’ sends employees weekly pulse surveys that are designed to measure employee engagement, enjoyment, and perceived work situation more frequently than the company’s previous half-year measurements. The surveys have a 97 percent response rate, and empower Mips to reinforce what works well, and develop and improve in other areas as needed.

Results of the survey are compiled on a scale of 1 to 10. Mips’ current year-to-date score of 8.4 is higher than the goal the company set for itself of at least 8.0. Mips’ overall score is significantly higher than the average of other users of the survey program, which comes to 7.6.

The survey asks employees questions on how enthusiastic and energized employees are about their work, how they feel their team is collaborating, and how supported they are by their managers, to name a few. Mips’ overall score includes, but is not limited to, the results of:

  • Leadership: How respected and encouraged employees feel by their managers, the level of trust that employees have in their managers, collaboration between employees and managers, and more
  • Team Spirit: How employees communicate with one another, how supported they feel by each other, how employees build off of each other’s ideas, and more
  • Personal Development: Whether employees feel they are learning new things, if this development meets their expectations, and how this supports their ability to work
  • Meaningfulness: How meaningful the company’s vision, values, and goals are, how meaningful employees’ work is to them, and how meaningful they perceive their work to be for society
  • Job Satisfaction: How enthusiastic, satisfied, and motivated employees are by their work, and how much they enjoy their work tasks and day-to-day activities

“Celebrating our team’s outstanding scores, this achievement boosts our employee value proposition and efforts into talent acquisition and reinforces our mission to lead the world to safer and more sustainable helmets. From Team Spirit to Personal Development, our scores exceed benchmarks, reflecting our dedication to innovation and the well-being of our employees. We’re proud of our progress and look forward to advancing together,” said Max Strandwitz, CEO of Mips.

Wilhelm Lidström
Product Development Engineer

I departed from Mips to seek a deeper engagement in product design and a direct connection with consumers, elements I felt were missing in my previous role.

Learnings from Time Away
My stint outside Mips, in a rapidly growing company, taught me the importance of structured
processes in scaling up. This experience reshaped my perspective on growth and company
culture.

Reasons for Returning
The strong, family-like culture at Mips and the continued evolution in helmet design drew me
back. Conversations with former colleagues reassured me that the Mips spirit remained
intact despite its growth.

Cultural Changes Observed
Upon my return, I was pleasantly surprised to find the company culture stronger than before.
The sense of community, once seemingly fading, was now robust, a testament to Mips’s
commitment to its core values even amidst growth.

Mips’s Unique Value
Mips’s standout feature is its comprehensive industry expertise, offering a rich environment
for learning and leading in helmet safety.

Future Goals and Support
My aspiration is to grow with Mips, pushing both myself and the company forward. Mips has
been supportive in aligning my personal ambitions with its strategic goals.

Recommendation to Prospects
I recommend Mips as an employer that values and understands the importance of its
people’s well-being, offering a balanced and supportive work environment.
