Protective Industrial Products Introduces Mips® Technology to the North American PPE Market
LATHAM, NY – July 8, 2021 – Protective Industrial Products, Inc. (“PIP®”), a global leader in hand protection and PPE for the industrial, construction, and retail markets is partnering with Swedish helmet safety technology company Mips®. This will make PIP® the first North American based safety company to incorporate the patented Mips® (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) helmet-based technology into their products, starting with the PIP® Dynamic® Rocky™ safety helmet, as well as other upcoming models.
“We are very excited that our Mips® technology will now be available to the construction and utility industries in the United States,” said Max Strandwitz, CEO of Mips®. “Our research shows that in job site accidents, many head-related impacts come at an angle, which can cause harmful rotational motion to the head. Conventional industrial safety helmets are typically designed and certified to protect against linear impacts, which mainly causes injuries such as skull fractures and brain contusions but are not specifically designed nor tested for rotational forces. Several research studies show that the brain is normally more sensitive to rotational forces rather than linear forces. The Mips® technology is designed to help reduce rotational forces caused by certain angled impacts. The inclusion of Mips® Safety System is a natural step in the evolution of safety helmets.”
“By combining our premier hard hat manufacturing know-how with Mips® helmet technology, PIP® will create a market-leading head protection system in the Dynamic® Rocky™” said Kyle Ramos, Director of Product Development and Innovation at Protective Industrial Products. He added, “Mips® helmet technology is based on 25 years of research and is popular in the sports market among skiers and cyclists who consider it a must-have feature in their helmets. We are thrilled to bring this enhanced level of protection to construction and industrial workers to help better protect them against on-the-job injuries.”
The updated version of the Dynamic® Rocky™ safety helmet with Mips® technology is expected to launch in the third quarter of this year. The ANSI type II hard hat is made of a Polycarbonate/ABS shell and has an integrated high-density inner shell foam linear that will work in conjunction with the Mips® technology to enhance protection by decreasing rotational motion otherwise transferred to the head from certain oblique impacts.
Mips® specializes in helmet safety and protection of the brain. Mips is the world leader in this field. Based on an ingredient brand model, the Mips® Safety System is sold to the global helmet industry. Mips® solutions are patented and are based on 25 years of research, testing, and development, together with the Royal Institute of Technology and the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. The Safety System is already firmly established and well known in sports helmets and extremely popular among skiers and cyclists. Currently, over 20m helmets from over 120 helmet brands are equipped with Mips® Safety System in the global helmet market. This includes ski helmets, bike helmets, motorcycle helmets, climbing helmets, horse riding helmets and now construction helmets. The company’s headquarters, with over 60 employees in research and development, sales, marketing and administration is located in Stockholm together with the test facility.
