From Thesis to Full-Time:

A Journey of Growth at Mips

Starting at Mips as a master’s thesis student made my transition into full-time work feel natural. I had time to get to know the environment, the tools, and—most importantly—the people. From day one, my colleagues were open and supportive, helping me quickly feel part of the team.

Early Lessons and Adaptation
One of the first things I learned was that our work often ventures into uncharted territory. Unlike university, where problems are more structured, we deal with novel challenges. That shift required a new mindset, but it also sparked my curiosity. Exploring new ground is not only encouraged at Mips—it’s essential.

Skill Growth in Real-World Contexts
A standout skill I’ve developed is building virtual simulations based on real-world scenarios. It’s a rewarding blend of technical depth and practical problem-solving. Each project helps sharpen my understanding of both the physical and digital sides of our work.

Support and Mentorship
My manager played a key role in my early development—teaching me to analyze data critically and approach challenges methodically. That kind of mentorship made a big impact.

Facing Challenges and Finding Balance
Prioritizing between projects and learning Mips’ workflows were early hurdles. Over time—and with plenty of questions—I built confidence and became more efficient.

Looking Forward
Looking ahead, I hope to take on a project leader role. I’m building toward that by deepening my expertise and learning from cross-functional collaboration.

Advice to Newcomers
Be curious, ask questions, and take initiative. Every conversation is a learning opportunity, and the more you engage, the more you’ll grow.
