MIPS partners with legendary motorcycle explorer Nick Sanders
Swedish brain safety technology pioneer MIPS is excited to announce a new partnership with British motorcyclist adventurer Nick Sanders. With over 20 years of research in helmet and brain safety MIPS leads the way in its industry with the MIPS-patented Brain Protection System (BPS), designed to reduce rotational motion transferred to the brain from angled impacts to the head. The company is proud to now partner with one of the world’s greatest explorers as he embarks on a motorcycle ride of epic proportions.
Nick Sanders has been exploring the world on two wheels for nearly 40 years. He has set numerous records on his travels, including the original record for fastest circumnavigation of the globe by bicycle, and becoming the first person to ride from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, South America in 46 days. Experienced in adventure with other forms of transport, Nick also holds licenses to fly hot air balloons and microlights. A highly respected figure in motorcycle and adventure circles, his services to endurance cycling and motorcycling were recognised in 2019 when he received an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), a prestigious British chivalry appointment.
The partnership launches as Nick prepares to take on his latest adventure this November, an 8-month around the world trip that visits five of the earth’s continents and covers 100,000Km. As with any bike trip rider safety is paramount, not least their head and brain safety. Ensuring the very best helmet and brain protection for Nick across some of the most challenging terrain imaginable, he will ride with the Bell MX-9 Adventure MIPS helmet, one of many flagship products in which MIPS serves as a crucial ingredient brand.Setting off on what could be his final circumnavigation of the globe on a motorcycle, Nick was very excited about the new union with MIPS, “I’m thrilled to be working with MIPS and supporting a technology that is so vital to motorcycle riders. On every trip I do, my safety gear is as important as the bike I ride. Tumbles and falls are inevitable on a long journey like this so my boots, gloves, jacket and trousers are all of a very high quality. The crash helmet is the most important bit of gear for any rider and you cannot compromise on safety, so I feel very confident knowing that my MIPS-equipped helmet offers the very best protection.”
Max Strandwitz, CEO of MIPS, was similarly excited by the new partnership, “We are delighted to have a new MIPS ambassador in Nick Sanders. Nick’s achievements in travel are incredible, and his adventurous spirit and passion are values shared by MIPS, echoing our focus in ensuring the best safety for our customers around the world. We are proud to provide Nick with helmets equipped with MIPS’ innovative and essential brain safety technology on his trip, and we wish him the very best of luck on his tenth circumnavigation of the world.”
MIPS provides their unique protection system as an ingredient component to helmet manufacturers worldwide. MIPS is incorporated by manufacturers of motorcycle helmets, bike helmets, horse riding helmets, construction helmets, military, hockey and ski helmets. As of 2018, 9.2 million units have been sold to a wide range of diverse helmet brands. Nick’s world trip begins on the east coast of North America in November, and will take in a visit to the MIPS HQ in Stockholm in June 2020, before finishing in the UK in July.
