Helmet-Based Safety Leader Mips Releases 2022 Sustainability Report
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN; March 28th, 2023 – Mips, a global market-leading helmet-based safety technology company, has announced the release of its 2022 Sustainability Report, which details its commitment to increasing the sustainability of its products, processes, and supply chain.
Mips’s sustainability efforts are centered around three key focus areas: its employees, its products, and its supply chain. In addition to environmental impact, Mips is equally focused on achieving social and economic sustainability through its business practices, company culture, and economic model. Mips prioritizes diversity, equity and inclusion, the health and wellbeing of its employees, and providing educational opportunities to attract, advance and retain its employees.
In 2022, Mips signed up for the UN Global Compact and has embedded the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact into Mips’ Code of Conduct, which all of the company’s manufacturing suppliers are obliged to sign. While Mips does not manufacture its own products, it works to ensure that the ten principles of the UN Global Compact concerning human rights, labor law, the environment, and anti-corruption are upheld throughout its value chain and conducts audits of all manufacturing suppliers.
In line with the Paris Agreement, Mips’ emissions targets are approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), to do its part in limiting global warming to 1.5°C. Mips is working to achieve this by analyzing its supply chain emissions, conducting lifecycle analyses of its products, and researching alternative testing methods such as the Mips Virtual Test Lab.
Some highlights from the 2022 Sustainability Report include:
- Mips achieved its goal of a 40–60 distribution of women and men in the workplace, the figure for 2022 was 48 women and 52 men.
- Mips delivered eleven customer projects with post-industrial recycled plastic, far exceeding its goal of three such projects.
- In line with the SBTi, Mips will reduce its total emissions by 42% by the end of 2030.
- Mips updated its product development to include a climate calculation consistent with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, ensuring future products are sustainable.
“Mips’ sustainability strategy is based on the company’s overarching strategy and builds on Mips’ fundamental values,” says Max Strandwitz, Mips CEO. “Together with suppliers and partners, Mips works to limit climate and environmental impact as much as possible, to apply the same values throughout Mips’ value chain, to embrace social responsibility for all employees, and to respect human rights in every regard.”
The report details the reporting frameworks that Mips applies, including UN Global Compact, Science Based Target initiative, the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and EU taxonomy.
