Mikaela Shiffrin Partners with Mips as New Athlete Ambassador
The eight-time World Champion alpine skier partners with leading helmet safety brand Mips to raise awareness about the importance of addressing rotational motion in high-performance environments
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN — [January 8, 2026] — Mips, a global leader in helmet-based safety technology, is proud to announce that Mikaela Shiffrin is joining the Mips athlete team. As a vocal advocate for athlete health and safety, Shiffrin’s partnership with Mips underscores a shared commitment to performance, safety, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, on and off the slopes.
“Safety is a non-negotiable part of my performance,” said Shiffrin. “To compete at the highest level, I need to trust that every piece of my equipment is doing its job, especially my helmet. What gives me confidence in Mips is how much effort they put into understanding the kinds of impacts we actually experience in our sport. Knowing how rigorous they test their solutions against rotational motion, allows me to focus fully on skiing, and perform at my absolute best.”
Mips technology is designed to help redirect rotational motion away from the head in certain oblique impacts, which are one of the most common causes of brain injury. While many traditional helmets primarily address linear forces, helmets with the Mips safety system include a low-friction layer that is designed to allow the head to move 10-15mm inside the helmet during impact, helping to redirect harmful rotational motion.
For any athlete, professional or not, this added layer could make a critical difference.
“Welcoming Mikaela to the Mips team is an incredible milestone,” said Max Strandwitz, CEO of Mips. “Her commitment to the sport and to pushing boundaries aligns well with our values and the Mips mission of leading the world towards safer helmets. Her decision to wear a helmet equipped with Mips technology truly sends a message about the importance of addressing rotational motion at every level.”
With close to 100,000 tests conducted in the Mips lab, and partnerships with helmet brands across cycling, snow sports, motorcycle sports, equestrian disciplines, and occupational safety, Mips continues to lead the charge in advancing helmet safety.
