Leading Brands to launch more than 90 new Helmet models with MIPS at Eurobike 2016
20 YEARS OF SCIENCE & TESTING MAKE MIPS THE UNDISPUTED LEADER IN HELMET SAFETY TECHNOLOGY.
Swedish safety technology brand MIPS will have a prominent position at Eurobike as the company and its brand partners are introducing more than 90 new helmets incorporating MIPS Brain Protection System. With models for on and off- road riding in every conceivable category, MIPS-equipped helmets are now available to fit just about any rider’s needs.
“The wide adoption of MIPS that we are seeing is the result of the nearly 20 years of dedicated study on the science of how the human brain is affected by energies resulting from impacts,” said MIPS CEO Johan Thiel. “We’ve integrated this understanding into our MIPS Brain Protection System and we are proud that consumers are starting to consider MIPS as a non-negotiable ingredient in any helmet.”
Today’s helmets are produced, tested and certified mainly to protect against straight impacts. In real life, the most common type of impact is angled (30-45 degree). Angled impacts can create rotational motion that can be transferred to the brain. This rotational motion can cause minor to severe strain in the brain. MIPS Brain Protection System has been designed to address these types of energy that the brain is exposed to during a typical fall for a bicyclist.
MIPS at EUROBIKE 2016
With over 100,000 attendees, spread over 65,000 square meters and nearly 1,400
manufacturers displaying the latest technology, the Eurobike bicycle trade fair in
Friedrichshafen, Germany is the premiere cycling industry event of the year. MIPS
representatives will be on hand at Eurobike (Booth FW.101) to explain the technology and to point the way to partners who are specifying MIPS Brain Protection System.
MIPS Brain Protection System
MIPS AB is the global leader in helmet safety technologies with its revolutionary and patented MIPS Brain Protection System. MIPS supplies its technology to brands of bike, ski/snowboarding, motorcycle and equestrian all over the world.
MIPS has been externally validated and proven by third party test labs and institutes in USA, Canada and Sweden.
MIPS mimics the function of the cerebral spinal fluid in the human head and adds a second layer of protection. MIPS uses a low-friction layer that, at the point of an angled impact, creates a relative motion between the helmet and the head. This helps to redirect the rotational energies away from the brain and to lower the strain in the brain tissue during the first critical milliseconds of an impact. Helmets without MIPS are produced, tested and certified mainly to protect against straight radial impacts. In real life, the most common type of impact is angled (30-45 degree). The MIPS low-friction layer is custom made to the helmet
and takes account for all types of technical features as well as ventilation.
The company was founded by specialists in the neuro and biomechanical field from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the Karolinska Institute and have extensive technological and medical expertise focused on preventing head and brain injuries. MIPS has its head office in Stockholm, Sweden. For more information about MIPS please visit
