Science friction

A groundbreaking combination of energy absorption and reduced friction. Multiple, moveable layers designed to redirect rotational motion from angled impacts.

Traditional helmets are designed and tested for straight impacts, but most impacts are angled, which can cause rotational motion to the head.

The rotational motion can
cause brain injuries.

The Low Friction Layer is intended to help reduce the rotational motion to the head in certain angled impacts.

How it works:

The Mips® Integra Split system is integrated into the energy-absorbing liner. By splitting the liner into three separate parts and adding a low-friction surface between the movable layers, the system can move to help reduce rotational motion to the head in certain angled impacts. Flexible fixations allow for controlled movement of the parts.

Where it´s used:

The Mips® Integra Split system provides omnidirectional movement in helmets with extensive energy-absorbing liners such as full-face helmets, or even mountain bike and snow helmets. Thanks to the split construction of this solution, the energy-absorbing liner can be produced in different densities to optimize performance.

Why Mips® Integra Split

When a helmet is impacted at an angle, it can cause the head to rotate suddenly and violently. This is a common source of concussions and brain injury.

The Mips® Integra Split system is designed to provide movement inside the helmet to help reduce the rotational motion to the head in certain angled impacts, thereby lowering the risk of such injuries. The design of the Mips® Integra Split provides seamless integration, a comfortable fit, and allows for incorporated ventilation.

  • Omnidirectional movement without affecting fit, comfort or ventilation.

  • Premium engineering and design.

  • Seamless integration.

  • Uniquely integrated with the helmet construction, allowing for material optimization.

The principle of the safety system

The Mips® safety system is designed to provide added safety for helmets in many accidents. For certain impacts, the Mips system can reduce harmful forces that might otherwise be transferred to the user’s head.
