Salomon Brigade Index

Co-created circular innovation

Traditional ski and snowboard helmets are hard to recycle. They combine many materials – shell, liner, buckles, straps, and padding that are difficult to separate after use.

When Salomon set out to develop Brigade INDEX the ambition was clear: only use material from one material family across the helmet to enable a simpler recycling process – while maintaining safety performance.

Our engineers worked closely with Salomon’s R&D team from an early stage to adapt our solution to the ambition.

Together we:

  • Switched our Low Friction Layer from Polyketone (PK) to polypropylene (PP) – the material family of choice

  • Built the padding attachment into the same material family

  • Reduced parts and overall material use

The result is a helmet built from at least 96% materials from the same origin family, making recycling easier at end-of-life.

To close the loop, consumers can return the helmet via a QR-based take-back system, where helmets are sent back, ground down, and reprocessed into new materials.

The Brigade Index shows how circular design is a journey we all share.
